My First Cover Shot

Look Mommy I am on a magazine:)

Happy New Year everyone!!!!

New Year

New Years Eve Beach Day

Or should I say beach morning. My mom and dad took me to the beach this morning. It was a beautiful day out and the water was nice and calm. My dad bought my mom a stand up surf paddle for Christmas so she can use his board to go surfing. She was pretty excited and got to use it for the first time today. Daddy went out first while mom and I hung out on the beach and then she got to go out too. She said it was really hard to catch waves but started to get the hang of it. Man was she tired when she came in! I even took a nap in my carseat on the beach for the usual 30 minutes. I think I had too much fun and when it was time for my next nap I decided to revolt...I didn't want to go to sleep so I didn't :-)

I hope everyone has a very HAPPY NEW YEARS!!!

Fun Times

Here is some video of me having a good time. Every time Dad takes out the camera I get shy...so this is a small tid bit of how I really act when the cameras aren't rolling. Trust me I can get a LOT louder than this and everytime I do mommy and daddy start laughing. I am really starting to discover my voice and the sounds that come out can be pretty funny I guess:)

Drooling

Sara has started drooling A LOT lately. She's always liked sucking on her fist but now she is constantly sucking on her fingers and tends to shove them very far in her mouth. It's almost as if she thinks the further she shoves them in her mouth the better they will taste. Today she has seemed more agitated than usual (which means she's quite grumpy). I'm beginning to think she might be teething. Being a first time mom of course I have no idea but she appears to have all the symptoms; irritability, drooling, chewing on anything she can get her hands on, pulling at her ear, rosey cheeks, pulling away while breastfeeding, waking more at night, etc. It may be something else or just normal behavior but my niece got her first tooth at 3 months so it's a possibility. We'll see soon enough :-)

On another note, I have recently read back through some of our blogs and am realizing how poorly they have been written (not to mention a few of them are quite silly...which is actually on purpose :-). My sister made a comment the other day that an email I sent her had horrible grammatical errors and misspellings that are not normal for me...she wrote it off as being sleep deprived :-) Yes, this is very true. There have been so many times since I gave birth to Sara that Ryan will say something to me and I truly can't remember what he said. We've had full conversations and I won't remember it....scary! So, sorry to all of you reading these blogs if they make absolutely no sense. You'd never know that Ryan and I are actually quite educated :-)

Passing Wind

..Dad thinks he is pretty funny.

The funny thing is this is what I actually do everyday when sitting in mommy's lap. I always get a good laugh when I poop:) My dad thinks humans are disgusting animals. He told mommy even the dog has enough class to not poop where she lies.

PS- This was Ryan's post...do you think he has some time on his hands? Maybe a little bored? He's only one week into a two week vacation...I think he's ready to go back to work!

Christmas Greetings and "In the Dark"

Merry Christmas to everyone! We had a wonderful Christmas here in sunny Hawaii. Sara must have known that Santa came because she was exceptionally good for us. She took all of her naps without protest and even slept for 45 minutes for one of them. That was a nice break for Ryan and I. It was definitely a different Christmas for us but fun nonetheless. Sara got us up bright and early (she's practicing for the years to come) and then went down for a nap so we had a chance to open our gifts. We attempted a trip to the beach but after a bloody murder scream session, we arrived at the beach with about a million other people who had the same idea. We decided to pack it up and head home...at least we tried. Other than that we just hung out at home, ate and played with our gifts. Oh yeah, Ryan "made" me go surf because there were actually waves at Flat Island, it was so nice to be in the water.

Here are a few pictures from the big day.

Her first stocking...

She loves her step stool from Auntie Kim

Thanks to Grandpa and Memere for the Bumbo seat...it is a hit!

On another note, I was in Sara's room last night about 6:45 changing her diaper when all of the sudden the lights flickered off and on. A minute later they turned off again and this time they stayed off...for 12 hours!! We had been hearing loud booms on and off for a few hours prior to the power outage. Once the power went out we started worrying we were under attack! That may sound crazy but we do have the President-elect staying in our town right now! Seriously though, it did flash through our minds for a little bit. It turns out that the lightning struck a tower on one of the ridges that caused the power grid to shut down. Somehow it caused the entire island to lose power (we had flashbacks from the earthquake a few years ago). It's pretty scary living on an island though because we could potentially lose power for weeks if the system doesn't shut down properly.
After we scurried through the house to find flashlights and candles we realized one important thing we were missing...Sara's noise makers to make her sleep!! We realized how reliant we are on the hairdryer and her air cleaner :-) We had to become innovative with our resources. Thanks to Ken and Jane for the emergency radio they bought a few years back...we had another little radio too so we were able to use the static as "white noise" and it worked!!
It was quite eerie looking out our balcony across Kailua and it being pitch black except for a few houses with generators. It was amazingly quiet...we could even hear the ocean (the surf is up right now) which is about a mile away as the crow flies.
We are now back with power and appreciate electricity even more!!

Christmas Video

Just thought you all would like to see my first attempt at singing...

My awesome Auntie Kerry sent me this onesie! It says "All mommy wants for Christmas is a Silent Night!"

Fun With Daddy

Daddy and me have so much fun together. Today he told me that I can be anything I want to so I decided that I wanted to be a super hero. Here I am flying to the rescue, just like daddy use to do:)

I always get a kick out of the outfits that daddy puts me in...I think he is trying to keep the boys away! Check out my knee high tube socks.

I think he forgets sometimes that I am only 3 months old and can't really sit on my own yet. It's a good thing I am tough and I like the taste of the couch because that's what I got from this face plant.

I love hanging out with my dad but after a couple of hours I start to miss my mommy. She is the best. I LOVE HER!

I think it is safe to say that between my mom and dad's lack of rhythm I am not going to be the world's best dancer. But I guess you never know, huh.

After all of this playing and dancing even Tyla gets tired.

I am getting so excited for Christmas. My mom and dad have told me that if I don't cry all day that Santa will come and bring me a lot of gifts. I am going to be on my best behavior because I really want some TOYS:) ...or maybe a hat that actually fits my melon:)

Here's a little creation that Dad did today...

Love all of you. MERRY CHRISTMAS!!

Happy 3 Month Birthday, Sara!

This is Kelley here....I had intentions of writing a long blog today for Sara's 3 month birthday but let's just say that we had a LONG day with her. Many people told us that the crying would just stop (or at least decline substantially) when she turned 3 months old. Well, today was the day and she had a ROUGH one. Man, she was fussy and did not want to sleep at all! We got a couple 20 minute naps out of her but that was it. She's been up now for 4 hours straight and nothing is working to put her down for the night...I think I'm having a deja vu of her 8 week birthday when we had a helacious night. At least now she throws in some smiles, coos, and giggles here and there :-) No seriously, she's been a lot better than those first 8 weeks but today has been quite challenging. I think I must have eaten something that's not agreeing with her tummy because it's hard and distended and she has been spitting up more than usual. Poor little girl (and poor parents!).

Here are some pictures for you to enjoy :-)

It's crazy how much she's grown in three months!

TV Watching

My mom and dad have not been watching very much TV while I'm around. I think it's because I strain my head and lift it really high while doing tummy time in order to see the boob tube. I'm not really into doing tummy time. I get kind of frustrated because I would rather be able to crawl around so my mom had a great idea the other day. She faced me towards the TV and guess what? I lifted my head the highest ever and stayed like that for five whole minutes! I don't think she's going to do that very often but it was pretty cool while it lasted.

I'm looking over my shoulder to get a view of the TV. (My mom says sorry about the clean laundry in the background...I don't give her very much time to do chores around the house!)

My auntie Kim gave me this cute "My 1st Christmas onesie"!

I'm also really into pulling my toys down on my playmat and putting them in my mouth. I get really frustrated when I can't get it in my mouth though!

Sitting up and other happenings

I've been practicing sitting up by myself...let's just say that sometimes it goes better than others. Here's video to prove it. (Mom, what were you thinking!)

Here's some other pictures too...I love being able to look around and see what's happening!

I think I need to work on my posture :-)
(By the way, my onesie says "Present Snatcher")

What's happenin'?

Here I am in my crib watching my mobile...isn't this thing supposed to make me sleepy?!?!

I showed Mommy today whose in charge! She thinks she is but we'll let it be my little secret...don't tell her that I'm really in charge. HEHEHE!

Lastly, I figured you all would like to see my dad in action, trying to get me to sleep at night. I must admit, his dancing skills are pretty good.

Oh ya, one more thing, my dad tricked me. He somehow got me to drink this white stuff, that tastes a lot like my mom's milk, out of a bottle last night. I sure put up a fight but after he bounced me around the kitchen with the water running I sucked it down in one big gulp. I didn't know what hit my stomach until a few minutes later. I screamed like crazy because I thought I was still hungry but then all of the sudden, I wasn't. Crazy how that works!

12 Weeks Old

Today I'm 12 weeks old. Wow, am I growing fast! I can't believe how old I am already. I'm getting more interactive every day. I'm smiling all the time and giggling every once in a while but I save them for when mommy doesn't have the camera out...I'm pretty sneaky :-)

I'm really enjoying looking around and seeing new things all the time. I get bored quickly so I like it when mom moves me around a lot. Lately I like the Christmas bells that she put on the fridge...they are pretty cool to look at and listen to. I can't wait for Christmas but hopefully mom and dad will keep playing Christmas music even after it's over!!

I really like sleeping on my side and I roll around in my bed so when my mommy comes in to feed me at night I'm facing the other direction or my feet are sticking out the side.

Tyla is pretty silly. I like looking at her and putting my feet on her. She likes to sing to my music too..

I like to talk sometimes too..

Congratulations Daddy!

My dad ran the Honolulu Marathon this morning...in the pouring down rain! He did awesome and ran a 3:22. Not bad for only training 3 days a week and raising me at the same time! It sounds like it was a pretty wet day but not too hot. He's a little sore tonight but managing to waddle around :-) He got a ride in the morning with our neighbor at 3:45 am...yikes that's early. My mom and I got up a few hours later and drove to meet him. We couldn't watch him finish because I get too fussy so we swooped in and picked him up right after he finished. I was a really good girl and didn't cry the WHOLE way over the mountains and only cried for 10 minutes on the way home. This made my mom really happy!

Here's a picture of him after the race. Yeah for Daddy!!!

And here's picture of me too!

Nap Strike!

It’s official! I’m officially on nap strike. I DO NOT want to take a nap, no matter what! When it’s that time and my mommy starts bringing me into that dark dungeon, I arch my back, straighten my legs as far as they’ll go and scream bloody murder in hopes that she won’t make me take a nap. And if I have to succumb to her techniques (she’s pretty tricky and turns the hair dryer on when I really put up a fight…that darn thing!) I only let her have 25-30 minutes to herself. I figure that if she makes me take a nap, she might as well not get anything done while I’m napping…HEHEHE!!

I can laugh!

Yesterday my mommy was doing pushups over the top of me and I started to giggle. This made my mommy SO excited! She couldn't believe it so I had to laugh once more for her. I decided that was enough for the day but today she made me giggle again! We'll see how often I want to do it, but I should her that I can and this made her really happy!

Mele Kalikimaka!

I know some of you have already seen this pic but I had to share it! (For those mainlanders...that means Merry Christmas!)

I'm really liking to sit up on my own now (well not really on my own, but I like to try). I especially like doing sit ups while sitting in my mommy's lap and while in the carseat...especially while I'm screaming. I'm already starting my ab training for when I get older.

I also really like my activity center...I grab onto the toys and won't let go...it's really fun! My mommy thinks I'm going to be an active little toddler because I kick, kick, kick, and throw my arms all around now. She took this video of me today.

I was dressed as Super Sara today...thanks Uncle Jeff and Auntie Jen!

My mom says that she wished I would take a bottle and take naps longer than 30 minutes too...what does she expect, me to do everything right!?!? I'm smiling like crazy...isn't that good enough?

Ouch!

Today my mommy took me to the doctor's and I was a really happy girl for the first half an hour. Then I got really bored and antsy because the doctor was taking a REALLY long time and I got kind of fussy. I got weighed and I am still growing like a weed. I weigh 12 pounds 5 oz and am on the 75th percentile. I'm also getting taller, I'm now 22.5 inches tall! That means I've grown 4 inches since I was born and am on the 50th percentile for height. My head is 15 and 1/4 inches and is on the 25-50th percentile. After the doctor looked at me and said I was a healthy little girl, the mean nurse came in and poked me with a needle 3 times and it hurt!!! I think mommy was more scared than I was...maybe because I didn't know what was coming. But we both made it through with only a few tears (my mommy didn't cry even though she wanted to.) I've been a good girl today but I'm not feeling so hot tonight so I've been a little fussy. My mom and dad hope I sleep really well tonight...I guess they'll have to wait and see :-)

In other news, I've been smiling A LOT and my mom and dad love it when I smile back at them. They think it's pretty cute! I also like to coo and I'm getting close to laughing. I like to look at all sorts of stuff now too, especially Tyla. My parent's say that I'm their little bundle of joy!! I still have my unhappy moments but I think I'm starting to like being a baby :-)

Oh yeah, I'm so excited for Christmas. Mommy put up all of our Christmas decorations...I can't wait until I'm old enough to help!
