Happy 1st Birthday Sara!

Today was such a fun day! Ryan surprised us and took the day off work to spend with Sara for her first birthday. I have to make this post quick because we're off to the Big Island tomorrow to meet up with Ryan's parents for a few days. It's amazing how LONG it takes to pack for a four day trip. Anyways, back to Sara's special day.

We woke up and she opened some of her presents. It's been an ongoing process since her birthday party. She loved all the gifts and especially the bags and boxes. Then we got on our bicycles and headed down to Kalapawai Market to get some breakfast. We hung out and she entertained everyone in her 1st Birthday outfit.

Michelle, this picture's for you :-)

She's a big girl now, facing forward in the car!

Then it was nap time. After she woke up we headed to Lanikai Beach with Tyla. It was such a BLAST! Ryan built her a swimming pool and a big birthday cake to climb on. She crawled and splashed and walked holding onto our hands. It was such a fun way to spend her big day.

Finally we went to frozen yogurt to celebrate the day followed by some yummy grilled cheese! I'm teaching her early to eat her dessert first :-)

This is a new trick she learned from daddy...big cheese!

My First Birthday Party

My parents threw me a really fun 1st birthday party yesterday! My real birthday isn't until Tuesday so I get to celebrate for a few days. Memere and Grandpa came into town so they got to enjoy it too!

My mom was a little worried because she's not really a "party" thrower but it ended up turning out great. Dad bought a whole bunch of balloons and hung them up and we had some cute decorations. We borrowed the neighbors toys for the "big" kids to play with and I had plenty of grass to crawl around. Lots of my friends came too! The food was awesome because my wonderful neighbors, Auntie Dee-Dee and Uncle Richard made insanely good teri-beef, chicken and grilled veggies...yummy!

Here are all the toys we borrowed before everyone showed up.

Pre-party

I actually took a nap and was sleeping at the beginning of my party so I was a little quiet and unsure (not normal) at the start but I came out of it quickly. I was such a trooper and ended up loving the attention and was a little ham. You never know with a first birthday party what you're going to get.

Memere and Grandpa enjoying themselves...

I wasn't exactly sure what they put in front of me. It looked kind of fun to play with but I didn't really like the taste of it at first.

Then I decided it was really fun to play with.

And then I made a real mess!

I got a lot of presents too and I still haven't opened them all yet. It's kind of fun to have something knew everyday and my birthday isn't even until Tuesday! At the end of the night I thanked my mommy by giving her a big kiss!

Three Steps

So after I wrote the last post Sara decided to take her first steps!! She took three of them and was so proud of herself, as you'll see in the video! (Sorry it's kind of shaky and close) She did it twice and then decided that was enough. We're back to crawling again :-)

We found our old Micheal Jackson cd last night and Sara seems to dig it!

Cheap Entertainment

Sara had a blast the other day playing with the diaper box. Who knew toys could be so cheap?

She also had fun this week playing with her friend Moana. They're so cute together. I swear they can speak each others language. I always wonder if they can understand what they're saying.

Moana was trying to teach her how to walk while she was over. Didn't work though.

Here Sara is practicing her standing. Notice the mouth wide open. This girl talks, screams, and moves ALL the time. Where does she get so much energy? It's definitely not from taking long naps :-)

She still hasn't expressed any interest in walking on her own. She can cruise around all the furniture, step over the top of whatever is in her way, walk with the push car, redirect it, you name it, she does it. It's amazing how agile she is but try to get her to walk and she's over it. We're actually ok with it because we've heard that our life is really over once that starts :-) My siblings and I were all 14 months when we started walking so it could be genetic. God knows that the high energy, talking machine, is from me, so why not her walking too?

Today we took a trip up to the North Shore with our friends that have two kids. It was so much fun and something different than normal. Sara had a blast. The beach (Chun's Reef) was nice and flat, with no rocks to eat, and gentle waves. She played and played and played. It was so cute to watch her with her friend, Justin, who is three. She would crawl while he would chase her. We had a few passing downpours which left us a little wet but we were at the beach so what better place to get wet :-)

And here's a proud parenting moment shot...thanks Dad!
