The Trip

The flight over wasn't as bad as we anticipated. We've just realized that our daughter has A LOT of energy (ok, maybe we already knew that). She wanted to be doing something constantly. On the flight back there was a little girl behind us that just hung out on her dad's lap and took a couple hour nap. Ryan and I looked at each other and laughed...my comment was, maybe they drugged her :-) No seriously, I think there are kids out there that just hang out...ours isn't one of those. She did take a quick nap, 15 minutes, while Ryan held her, on the way there. The way back he got smart and used the Ergo carrier and she slept for a whopping 30 minutes TWICE! Phew, that was nice.

For those of you on Facebook you've probably seen a lot of these pics but for those that haven't here you go...there's lots of them.

We flew into Seattle and stayed in the city for the night and drove across the Cascades to my hometown, Yakima, the next day. It was so fun to be in my childhood home. Sara actually slept in my old bedroom. My mom was thrilled to have us stay with her. We had a blast with my two nieces and they LOVED seeing Sara. Sara is going through withdrawals from all the people she got to hang out with. It was awesome hanging out with my sister. We actually got to have a girls night and went to dinner with my great friend Gretchen. I think Sara's quite bored now that it's just me during the day :-) She misses everyone!

We went for a walk up to an apricot orchard above the house the first morning.

Sara got to pick her first real apricot and eat them. They were soooo yummy! Ryan went to the store when we got back to Hawaii and bought some apricots that were $4.99 per pound!! They were disgusting. We sure miss the fresh ones.

She got to ride the rollercoaster in my mom's living room. She had so many fun new toys for Sara...she was in heaven!

We swam with the girls and even had a diving contest with my mom, sister, her husband, nieces, and Ryan. It was hilarious. We sure have a talented family :-)

One of the coolest parts of the trip is that Sara got to meet her great-grandmother, Nana. She's 93 years young and going strong!

We took care of Katie and Emily for a few hours for my sister. Here we are watching a movie together. Ryan loved watching all the girls' movies :-) The funny thing is that he actually sat through all of them.

Ryan and I actually went on a road trip together. My mom and sis took care of Sara for us. It was so fun to be driving for more than 10 miles at once. I never thought I would miss the ability to drive for an extended period of time but it was great. We stopped at a fruit stand and bought some fresh fruits and then in a little town called Leavenworth. It's a cute little Bavarian town in the middle of the mountains.

Then we continued on to Lake Chelan. I went there as a kid so it was fun to go back. We actually got in the water even though it was FREEZING.

She learned how to climb. And she also got two more teeth, learned to wave by opening and closing her hand, point, and clap. It was full of firsts. She also got stung by a bee!! My mom was with her and she was crawling around outside when she put her hand on a bee! My poor mom felt so bad and was so worried, but it turned out ok and she was fine. Poor baby!

Well, that's it for the pictures. Overall, we had a great trip and Sara was a trooper. She adjusted quite well after a few days and LOVED all the attention. We (especially me) sure miss it there!!
