It's Official

We're moving back to the Northwest! And in true Hatfield style we're having to get everything ready and leave by March 30. Let's just say that's why we haven't been posting lately. Ryan got a job offer last week, after we thought he had been turned down, in Oak Harbor, WA. It's on Whidbey Island about 2 hours north of Seattle. Are we nervous about the move? Yep. Are we crazy for leaving Hawaii? Probably. Are we excited for a new adventure? For sure! The unbelievable list of things to do is slowly being chipped away but the anxiety about it all isn't going away.

Many people are probably wondering why we want to leave paradise. The way we look at it is that we're moving to a new type of paradise (although we haven't visited there yet!). There are many things drawing us back to the mainland but one of the most important is being closer to family so Sara can get to know her relatives. We'll still be about 4 hours from my home town and a 3 hour flight to San Diego where Ryan's family is but it's still a lot closer then being in Hawaii. We love so much about Hawaii that we're going to really miss and know that once we get there we'll probably wonder why we moved, but we're always up for an adventure. The schools are MUCH better on the mainland, housing is ASTRONOMICALLY cheaper, and there are a lot more opportunities for things to do (although you can't beat the ocean in Hawaii, we're truely going to miss that the most!). The area we're moving too is absolutely gorgeous and there is an unlimited amount of things to do outside. We'll just have to bundle up a bit more...I've turned into a cold weather wimp so that will have to change quickly. There's actually surf on the island and it's in a the rain shadow so it gets half the rain of Seattle. We'll just have to learn to dress in layers :-)

So there it is. We're off! Lots to do between now and then so probably won't be a lot of updating but we'll try to when we can. I'll leave you with a few pics and a video of Sara. She was dressed for the "cold" weather yesterday. Ha! My perspective of cold weather is going to change quickly!

Here she is riding a big kid scooter. She's not too impressed with my picture taking these days :-)

Good luck with the move. Sounds like you guys are moving to another kind of paradise. But yes, you are going to have put Sara in a few more layers. And it looks like she moves fast!

I am really excited for you guys! I love the video of Sara. I can't wait for her and Kai to run together. Today he wanted to be called "runner" all day. It was funny! You guys will miss Hawaii, just as we do, but I know you'll make the most of your new home and it will be awesome in so many ways, different ways, but awesome all the same. I can't wait til we can go and ride hurricane ridge together up there!
